JEAN BRODEUR, Ph.D.


Jean Brodeur is scientific researcher at the Centre for Topographic Information (CIT) of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

Mr. Brodeur obtained a bachelor’s degree in Geodetic Sciences (1983) and a master’s degree in Mapping and Land Information (1986) from Laval University. He completed a PhD degree in Geomatics Sciences (2004) on semantic interoperability of geospatial data at Laval University.

He has been involveld in several projects related to the design, the implementation, and the production of topographic databases, notably the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) of Canada. He is presently chairman of the Canadian Advisory Committee to ISO/TC 211 and vice-chair of the Committee on Geomatics of the Canadian General Standards Board on the standardization, both in the field of geomatics. He is the canadian representative leading the work to elaborate the North American Profil of ISO19115:2003 Geographic information - Metadata. Besides this, he is adjunct at the Département des sciences géomatiques of the Université Laval as well as associate researcher at the Centre de recherche en géomatique (CRG) of the Université Laval. He is also collaborate researcher to the Industrial Research Chair in Geospatial Databases for Decision Support.
